Career

Sergio André Laclau focuses his practice in the areas of Arbitration, Litigation, Corporate and International Law. Sergio has extensive experience in major domestic and international arbitration cases and complex merger and acquisition transactions. He was actively involved in relevant transactions in different industries, such as aviation, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, power generation and distribution, financial services, infrastructure, and security services sectors.

Sergio represented UEG Araucária, a joint venture formed by El Paso and Petrobras, in an arbitration proceeding involving the execution of a long-term power purchase agreement with COPEL. In addition, Sergio has assisted Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais in the process of acquiring shares of the controlling block of Light S.A. held by Andrade Gutierrez, Luce Fund and Equatorial Energia. Sergio Laclau also advised the investment group responsible for the creation of Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S.A.

His previous professional experience includes working as partner at Xavier Bernardes, Bragança Advogados and Veirano Advogados. Sergio Laclau was also an international attorney at Fulbright & Jaworski (Houston, USA) from 2005 to 2006. He holds a master’s degree in International Law at the University of Rio de Janeiro and authored a book on the international jurisdiction of Brazilian courts, as well as several legal articles. Sergio was a speaker in several events organized in Brazil and abroad on arbitration and procedural law issues.
