The Government approved an amendment to the Slovak National Bank (SNB) even although the SNB is against it and passed the amendment to the National Council SR for discussion. Under the legislation rules the agreement of the SNB is required for any such amendments prior to their approval.
The amendment aims to decrease the independence of the Central Bank in establishing Slovak monetary policy. For example, one of the suggested changes is that approval of the SNB budget is moved from the Central Bank Council to the Slovak National Council.
