BA, SIA Start Talks Over Seat Dispute (ST 12.06.99)

SingaporeIntellectual Property

Following the recent commencement of legal proceedings by both British Airways ("BA") and Singapore Airlines ("SIA") over their First Class seats, senior officials from both airlines have met to resolve matters. BA chief executive Robert Ayling disclosed that the first round of talks took place in Singapore on Thursday 10 June 1999 and that the officials would meet again.

BA chairman Lord Marshall told the press that while BA will defend its rights, he hopes the dispute would be resolved amicably and quickly.

As both airlines’ First Class seats are patented, they are protected in their own right. The world is undoubtedly watching with interest as to how the talks turn out.
