The government has recently presented a bill for the implementation of the revised EU Electricity Directive (2003/54/EC). The changes mainly concern the Electricity Act. Since Sweden reformed its electricity market in 1996, the government must implement only a limited number of the directive's provisions.

The Swedish Government formally adopted a National Control List for Dual-Use Products and Technologies on 25 September, 2025, to cover certain dual-use items not already included in Annex I of the EU Dual-Use Regulation.

On July 1 2005 the Natural Gas Act was replaced by a revised act which implements the Natural Gas Directive.
