A new partnership with an American counterpart to offer a new central bank product could be a solution to the banking and derisking challenges in Barbados.

The Barbados Stock Exchange (BSE) formally launched an international securities market (ISM) on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Though within the BSE, the ISM will operate as a separate market with distinct rules that apply to membership, trading, clearing and settlement and listing of securities.

Barbados has been upgraded to "largely compliant" by the OECD. As a result, the jurisdiction's chances of attracting major investments have significantly improved.

The International Trusts Act of Barbados 1995-14 (amended by the International Trusts Act 1995-19) provides for the creation and regulation of international trusts and related matters. Subject to the terms of the trust instrument the Act provides for certain taxation matters which affect the trust and its beneficiary. Some of these taxation matters are discussed herein.

Barbados is considered to be one of the important international business and financial services centres in the region.
