Despite rapid digitization in Pakistan and frequent data breaches (including leaks of sensitive personal information), the country still lacks an enacted, comprehensive data-protection law.

The very concept of the law on privacy revolves around keeping information secure and private. The information is then data and keeping it secure would be the protection which the law of data protection offers in countries.

The legislation on data protection is in draft/Bill stage and yet to be passed by the Parliament. Its title is the Personal Data Protection Bill 2018 ("the Bill").

There is no legislation to regulate the protection of data, but a draft Electronic Data Protection Bill was circulated.
