Op 27 juni 2019 maakte de Europese Commissie (de Commissie) bekend dat zij Canon Inc. (Canon) een boete oplegt van EUR 28 miljoen voor de voltooiing van haar overname van Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (TMSC).

Op 27 juni 2019 maakte de Europese Commissie (de Commissie) bekend dat zij Canon Inc. (Canon) een boete oplegt van EUR 28 miljoen voor de voltooiing van haar overname van Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (TMSC). Canon had volgens de Commissie verzuimd deze overname bij haar te melden en haar goedkeuring af te wachten alvorens deze tot stand te brengen, ook wel gun-jumping  genoemd. Om diezelfde redenen zijn ook maatregelen tegen Canon en TMSC genomen in de Verenigde Staten, China en Japan. Na de recordboete van EUR 125 miljoen voor Altice van april vorig jaar en de zaak bij het Europese Hof van Justitie (HvJ) rondom de fusie van de Deense vestigingen van EY en KPMG, maakt de Canon zaak eens te meer duidelijk dat gun-jumping  bij de Europese mededingingsautoriteiten op de radar staat. In deze blog staan wij kort stil bij de Canon zaak en hoe deze past in de recente ontwikkelingen op het gebied van gun-jumping.
