The finance ministry's oversight division was converted into the "Securities Office" effective from 3 February 1997. The Office should become the forerunner for the independent supervisor over the capital markets, the Securities Committee. This Committee is currently being set up to operate under special law. The date of commencement of the committee activity has not yet been specified.
