Minister van justitie, Vincent Van Quickenborne, wil het snelrecht in strafzaken nieuw leven inblazen. Het wetsvoorstel ligt op tafel van de ministerraad die voor het zomerreces de invoering ervan moet mogelijk maken.

Wat wil elke burger van een strafonderzoek? Dat het onderzoek snel en grondig gevoerd wordt. Snel omdat bestraffing best zo vlug mogelijk aansluit bij het gepleegde misdrijf om dader en slachtoffer duidelijk te maken hoe maatschappelijk geantwoord wordt op ordeverstorend gedrag en om zo straffeloosheid te vermijden. Grondig omdat iedereen toch wil dat een rechter zo goed en breed mogelijk wordt ingelicht over het misdrijf en de man/vrouw/x achter de gepleegde feiten.
