Lead senior counsel, Portugal | SAP
Team size: Twelve
Jurisdictions your role covers: Portugal
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
As Lead Senior Legal Counsel and primary legal advisor for SAP’s Portuguese market operations, I provide guidance on contract negotiations across cloud services, enterprise software licensing, and consulting agreements. Beyond my core transactional responsibilities, I advise local management on compliance frameworks and antitrust policy implementation. I also represent SAP EMEA Field Legal in a cross-functional working group focused on contract localisation across the region.
Which recent regulatory or legislative change in Portugal has had the most significant impact on in‑house legal teams, and how have you adapted your approach in response?
For the technology sector, the Data Act and the EU AI Act have been the most significant developments over the past year, emerging as recurring themes in contract negotiations. In response, my team invested in building internal knowledge through consistent training sessions, briefing notes, and updates on regulatory developments, ensuring we were well-equipped to advise the business and address these matters in negotiations with confidence.
In what ways has technology or process innovation changed how your legal team operates?
AI tools have become a meaningful part of how we work day to day. We use them to summarise lengthy email threads, structure legal advice, review language and drafting, and search for documents across our internal platforms. This has allowed the team to work more efficiently and focus time on higher-value legal work.
