What piece of work or project over the past year are you most proud of, and why was it particularly significant for the business?
One of the pieces of work I am most proud of over the past year was leading and taking end-to-end responsibility for a highly material cross-border acquisition for the Group, involving the reinforcement of Fidelidade’s stake in The Prosperity Company (a Liechtenstein incorporated company), ultimately resulting in the Group increasing its participation to 100%.
The acquired business operates across several European markets, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Liechtenstein, and focuses on long-term savings, retirement planning solutions and financial decision-support tools for individuals. The deal was strategically significant for the Group, as it strengthened our positioning in the longevity and savings space, a key long-term growth driver, and enhanced our ability to deliver integrated insurance and financial planning solutions across the customer lifecycle.
From an execution perspective, the transaction was complex, involving multiple jurisdictions, regulatory considerations, and close coordination across legal, financial and strategic teams. Managing the process end-to-end required strong alignment between all parties and disciplined execution under tight timelines.
What made this project particularly meaningful was not only its strategic relevance and scale, but also the level of ownership and responsibility I was entrusted with throughout. Successfully delivering this acquisition represented both a key milestone for the Group and a significant professional achievement for me.
What skills or experiences have been most important in your development as an in‑house lawyer so far?
The most important experiences in my development as an in-house lawyer have been working closely with business teams, managing complex cross-functional matters, and learning to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in fast-paced environments, something that, as a law firm lawyer, is not always immediately obvious. These experiences have strengthened both my legal judgement and my ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives.
Equally important has been the development of soft skills such as communication, influence, negotiation and stakeholder management, which are essential to operate effectively in an in-house environment. Being close to senior leadership, including exposure to Fidelidade’s board of directors and executive committee, has also been particularly formative, as it has given me a deeper understanding of institutional priorities, governance dynamics and strategic decision-making. This proximity has helped me position legal not only as a support function, but as a strategic partner to the business.
What excites you most about the future of the in‑house legal profession, and where do you hope to continue developing your career?
What excites me most about the future of the in-house legal profession is the increasingly strategic role that legal teams play within organisations, contributing not only on legal matters but also to business decisions, innovation and long-term growth. I am also particularly interested in the impact that technology and artificial intelligence will continue to have on the profession, both in transforming the way legal teams work and in creating new legal and ethical challenges.
Another aspect that excites me is the increasing globalisation and complexity of the regulatory environment, which requires legal teams to navigate multi-jurisdictional challenges while supporting fast-moving business priorities. This creates a highly dynamic environment where continuous learning and adaptability are essential.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing my career in international and dynamic organisations, further strengthening my leadership capabilities, strategic thinking and commercial mindset. I aim to continue growing as a trusted business partner, working closely with senior stakeholders, and contributing to impactful, innovative and sustainable growth across the organisation.
