<strong> In an increasingly complex global environment, how are you helping your organisation navigate risk while still supporting growth?</strong>
In an increasingly complex global environment, my approach has been to position the legal function as a strategic business partner by integrating risk management into decision-making processes from an early stage. This involves anticipating regulatory, contractual, and operational scenarios, and translating them into practical, business-oriented solutions that enable the company to move forward with confidence and predictability.
In the industrial and agribusiness sector, where risks are highly dynamic, I work cross-functionally with technical and commercial teams to structure legal solutions that support growth, mitigate contingencies, and ensure compliance while maintaining business agility.
<strong>How has the role of General Counsel evolved in recent years, and where do you see GCs creating the most value today?</strong>
In recent years, the role of the General Counsel has evolved from a primarily reactive function into a strategic leadership role. Today, the greatest value is created through active participation in business planning, crisis management, and the strengthening of governance frameworks. The legal function also plays a key role in driving efficiency through process standardisation, resource optimisation, and the adoption of technology.
Effective leadership in today’s legal function requires a combination of technical excellence, strategic vision, and strong business acumen. A collaborative, solution-oriented approach is essential to position the legal team as a trusted and accessible partner. The greatest impact is achieved when legal leaders influence decision-making by providing clarity in complex situations and aligning their advice with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Building and maintaining a strong legal team is grounded in continuous talent development, efficient resource allocation, and the implementation of clear, scalable processes. Fostering a high-performance culture based on accountability and continuous improvement is critical, as is promoting adaptability and critical thinking. Additionally, the progressive adoption of technology and agile methodologies enhances the team’s capabilities and maximises its impact.
Looking ahead, one of the main challenges for in-house legal teams will be adapting to increasing regulatory complexity and rapid technological advancement, particularly in relation to digital transformation and artificial intelligence. At the same time, this presents a significant opportunity for the legal function to further strengthen its strategic role by not only mitigating risks but also creating value through innovation, efficiency, and forward-looking insight.
