In an increasingly complex global environment, how are you helping your organization navigate risk while still supporting growth?

In an increasingly complex global environment, I believe the role of the legal department is no longer limited to identifying risks, but rather to translate legal aspects into an operational basis to promote satisfactory strategic decision-making. In my current role, I work closely with commercial, financial and operational teams to structure transactions and projects in a way that balances business objectives with legal certainty and risk mitigation. This includes advising on financing and refinancing transactions, trusts, guarantees, regulatory matters, litigation strategy and complex negotiations.

How has the role of General Counsel evolved in recent years, and where do you see GCs creating the most value today?What does effective leadership look like for a General Counsel today, and where do GCs have the most impact?

Effective leadership for a General Counsel today requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, adaptability and strong interpersonal skills. Legal leaders must be able to communicate effectively with executives, operational teams, regulators, financial institutions and external stakeholders while remaining solution-oriented under pressure.

I believe GCs have the greatest impact when they become facilitators within the organisation — helping bridge the gap between legal, commercial and operational objectives. In my experience, leadership also involves building trust and credibility across teams, promoting efficient processes and fostering a culture where legal advice is viewed as a business enabler rather than an obstacle. Particularly in complex organisations, the ability to align legal strategy with commercial priorities can have a direct and measurable impact on growth, stability and long-term success.
