Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

The Nova legal and regulatory team was assembled following the merger of ex-Wind and ex-Nova, two major telecommunications and media players in Greece, following their acquisition by United Group. I created the team by adopting a fluid structure, rather than a strict division of work by areas of law. Although each lawyer has their main area of expertise, they also have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with different subjects. Our lawyers also follow their projects all the way through the courts, which gives them the opportunity to appreciate how their advice plays out in front of a judge. This way of working massively benefits the organisation as the team can identify synergies and transfer their experience across different areas of the business. Our lawyers build a diverse background that helps them grow even within their own areas of focus. A win-win solution for everyone.

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Throughout 2022 and 2023, the Nova legal and regulatory team spearheaded the legal merger of the former Wind and Nova. The team also supported the subsequent integration of the two companies’ systems, products and personnel and their rebranding under a new, unified brand. This was a uniquely complex transformation project, one of the largest ever undertaken in Greece. To make this project a success, we had to deal with many moving parts and different corporate, contractual, and regulatory issues, all intertwined into a complex puzzle. We worked with many internal and external stakeholders and authorities. We challenged ourselves to think innovatively and find solutions, working against the clock, and made possible what often seemed impossible. We did all this while simultaneously working on large corporate, regulatory, commercial projects and while supporting the day-to-day running of the business. This was a great achievement and success for my team of outstanding lawyers.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

We live by our values in every aspect of our work. Empowerment, collaboration, inclusion, respect, agility, and excellence are the values that drive my team, and these values are what we look for in our external partners. We select our external partners very carefully as we are looking for those who will act as true partners that will help us overcome challenges without cutting corners.
