What are the most significant cases, projects or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

One of the most significant challenges we have faced recently has been managing internal structural changes within the brokerage firm and our Legal and Compliance team, while simultaneously supporting the implementation of new technology-driven projects. These initiatives have required significant coordination, adaptability, and close collaboration across different areas of the organisation.

In addition, last year our team underwent an extensive routine regulatory audit, which lasted several months. We were closely involved throughout the process, coordinating the required information, responding to regulatory enquiries and ensuring that all necessary follow-up actions were completed. We were very pleased that the audit concluded with satisfactory results and no sanctions or significant findings.

How do you approach managing legal matters during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During periods of instability or crisis, I focus on quickly identifying legal and regulatory risks, prioritising critical issues and providing practical guidance to support business continuity. Clear communication and close coordination with management and the relevant teams are key to ensuring that the organisation remains resilient while protecting its legal and reputational interests.

Based on your experiences over the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

One trend that I believe in-house lawyers should be particularly mindful of is the growing impact of technology and AI on legal and business processes. Companies are increasingly expected to adopt these tools while also managing the associated regulatory, data privacy, cybersecurity and compliance risks.

I also believe that regulatory requirements are becoming increasingly complex and demanding, making it more important than ever for in-house legal teams to stay ahead of regulatory developments and work closely with the business to anticipate risks rather than simply react to them.

4. We are currently living through a period of geopolitical change, and the world order that we have taken for granted for many years is being rewritten. Does this affect your company’s risk profile and, if so, what are you doing to mitigate this?

Geopolitical developments do affect our risk profile, particularly through increased regulatory, sanctions, compliance and market risks. To mitigate these risks, we continuously monitor regulatory and international developments, strengthen our AML/CFT and sanctions controls, and work closely with the business to identify and address emerging risks in a timely manner.

We also place a strong emphasis on maintaining operational resilience and ensuring that our risk management framework remains adaptable to a changing environment.
