What are the key projects you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
The sale by The Carlyle Group of SierraCol Energy Limited, Colombia’s largest independent oil and gas exploration and production company, to Prime Infrastructure Capital. Under Carlyle’s investment period, SierraCol also successfully executed and integrated value-accretive acquisitions, including CEPSA’s (now Moeve) Colombian assets and bought out its minority partner, Repsol, in SierraCol Arauca. The first closing of the transaction occurred on March 24, 2026.
In November 2025, SierraCol Energy Andina, LLC; SierraCol Energy Arauca, LLC; and Colombia Energy Development Co., wholly owned subsidiaries of SierraCol Energy Limited, successfully priced an offering of $650m aggregate principal amount of 9.000% 5NC2 Senior Notes due 2030.
Can you describe an instance where your legal advice directly influenced business strategy or commercial objectives?
As general counsel, providing efficient and creative solutions to facilitate Finance and M&A transactions, that comply with applicable regulations while incorporating stakeholders and finance needs is instrumental.
How can general counsel help drive responsible governance and ethical decision-making across an organisation?
Integrity only becomes real when it is embedded in culture; when integrity is not a slogan, but a baseline for how decisions are made every day.
The general counsel is uniquely positioned to influence and to help shape that culture. Beyond policies and controls, the focus should be on creating an environment where ethical behavior is expected, visible by example and valued. At SierraCol Energy, we believe that the people who work for us are our most important asset, they are ambassadors and their actions and behavior represent the way we do business.
That also requires moving away from a purely policing mindset. The legal function shouldn’t be seen as the team that says no, but as a partner that helps the business navigate complex situations in a way that protects both the business goals and the company’s reputation. This means acting under the understanding that what we do is important, and how we do it, is equally important.
Finally, leadership consistency is critical. Culture is set by what leadership does, not what it says. When difficult decisions are handled with transparency and accountability, it sends a clear signal across the organisation.
Beyond your legal role, is there a cause or initiative you are especially passionate about?
In 2023, together with 15 SierraCol Energy women, we developed and implemented the Leadership Academy for High Impact Women (ALMA, its acronym in Spanish). I had the fortune, and was proud, to be part of the development team.
The ALMA program aims to promote gender equality and provide women with the tools and opportunities they need to reach their full potential. By focusing on education and skill development, ALMA not only enhances the capabilities of women in the workplace, but also contributes to the broader social and economic development of the communities involved.
Through the ALMA program, we have built a strong community of women who support one another and grow together. From a corporate perspective, we have supported women through mentoring, coaching, and networking initiatives designed to strengthen their leadership within the organisation.
I am convinced that leadership is not a destination, it is a journey. It is built every day and reflected in each of our actions. This is perhaps the most valuable lesson I take from ALMA. Every day, we are shaping ourselves as leaders, and our leadership is truly tested in moments of adversity — where our humility, resilience and strength are challenged, and where we must recognise our mistakes and identify the best way to address and learn from them.
ALMA is a truly transformative program that goes beyond providing development tools, creating a meaningful space for self-discovery and intentional reflection. It empowers us to pause, reconnect with our purpose and engage in deep personal insights that are often overlooked in the pace of everyday work — strengthening not only our leadership, but also our sense of purpose and impact.
So far, 314 women within SierraCol, our contractors, authorities and the community groups have taken the program, and we expect this program continues to grow and reaches broader stakeholder groups.
