What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The most significant process I was involved in during the pandemic was the development, incorporation and successful certification of Ultra Air. The latter is an airline company of which I am the co-founder and the legal vice-president. It is currently holding its operator certificate and is fully operational in Colombia.

Have any new laws, regulations or judicial decisions greatly impacted your company’s business or your legal practice?

Yes — in addition to the multiple regulations that were issued to address various needs due to the pandemic, the creation of Ultra Air was impacted by a significant change in the aeronautical legislation, the strictest and most comprehensive in the history of the country. They guarantee excellent protection for all stakeholders, lessors, investors, travelers and airports. It was particularly challenging, not only because of the pandemic but also because, in both projects, new regulations came into force in the middle of its implementation; nevertheless, we made the pertinent adjustments, being the first and only one in commercial aviation to have been successfully certified with the strictest standards of the new regulatory framework for civil aviation in Colombia.

What do you predict will be the biggest change in the legal market over the next few years?

I believe the legal market is moving forward faster and with less resistance than before the pandemic towards technological integration. It will allow us better and more efficient interactions and greater efficiency in managing different processes, benefiting our stakeholders and clients. Efficient use of technology will enhance legal services, ensuring better use of resources.
