Legal Director for Mexico and CASA (Central and South America) | Elanco

What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

Acting as a true business partner, rather than solely as a legal adviser, has been a key priority for both my team and me. Over the past year, we have supported the successful expansion of operations across the 19 countries within my region, contributed to the reorganisation of go-to-market strategies, and enabled important product launches and portfolio innovations that are strengthening Elanco’s presence and reach within the veterinary market.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Periods of instability or crisis at Elanco are viewed as engines of opportunity, a chance to review legacy ways of working, challenge the status quo, adapt quickly, and step up as true business owners. We approach legal in the same way: by aligning closely with business priorities, focusing on what adds the most value, and safeguarding both business continuity. In practice, this means strengthening risk assessment, enabling fast and pragmatic decision-making, and working cross-functionally to ensure clear alignment and coordinated responses. Our goal is to be a solutions-oriented partner that helps the business move forward with confidence, even in uncertain environments.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess? Deep business knowledge. Without understanding how the business truly operates, it is very difficult to provide meaningful legal advice.

An in-house lawyer must become an expert in the business and the industry they support, sometimes even thinking more like a commercial partner than a traditional lawyer. Equally important is creativity and a solution-oriented mindset. Our role is not only to protect the company, but to do so in a way that enables growth. That means thinking outside the box, proposing practical alternatives, and finding ways to manage risk without slowing the business down.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I am passionate about food security and environmental sustainability. In a world where the demand for protein continues to grow, the pressure on our planet is reaching critical levels. Promoting healthier animals ultimately supports healthier people and a healthier planet. I believe this is essential not only for global wellbeing and long-term sustainability, but also for the legacy we leave for future generations, including my daughters.
