What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

In the past year, we led a multidisciplinary team in coordinating a voluntary product recovery initiative across Central America, covering all relevant SKUs within our portfolio.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

We aim to provide consistency and reassurance to the organisation, reinforcing confidence that challenges can be effectively managed. Our approach involves carefully analysing each issue and breaking it down into manageable components to reach a solution. Throughout the process, we ensure transparency so the organisation can follow how the matter is being addressed until resolution. This helps build trust in our role within the business. As a service function, our priority is to support continuity without becoming the focal point. If we are able to resolve issues efficiently, without disruption and largely behind the scenes, then we have fulfilled our role successfully.

General counsel often speak of the need to be strategic to reach the pinnacle of the profession. What does being strategic mean to you?

Strategic to me is being able to anticipate problems, to be proactive instead of only being reactive, and finally to understand the needs of the business and to sort problems out without interrupting the business.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

Over the past few years, we have been focused on identifying which areas of the Legal Department should undergo digital transformation and how best to implement it. This has involved continuous analysis of the subject, alongside operating within a company that places a strong emphasis on digital innovation and data privacy. We have prioritised implementing the appropriate tools, all of which are developed in-house and tailored specifically to our requirements, without relying on external providers.In addition, we lead the AI committee in our region, ensuring robust safeguards are in place to protect sensitive information relating to employees, customers, and suppliers. Our systems are deliberately not connected directly to the internet; instead, we rely on bespoke solutions designed to meet our organisation’s specific needs, reflecting our strong commitment to data security.
