What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We are working on the construction of the world’s largest single-line pulp mill. This has involved navigating various legal aspects, including contract negotiations, project management, financing, etc., to make this the largest private investment currently in Brazil. These are significant negotiations, not only for the construction and assembly of a factory of this size, but also for a small railway and the implementation of a greenfield port in Santos, among other things related to the forest supply for this pulp mill. It has been a great professional and personal challenge for me and everyone on my team.

What new pressures are you facing from the business as expectations for legal to act as a strategic partner continue to grow?

As a legal partner, and especially when leading such a large project, we always face the challenge of providing viable legal strategies to ensure the sustainable implementation of the business from a legal standpoint. This demands significant collaboration between the legal team and the various areas of the company, as well as the search for innovative solutions that simultaneously achieve full legal compliance.

What strategies has your legal team adopted to manage disputes and mitigate risks in Brazil’s dynamic business environment?

We carry out extensive preventative and control work within the Company to mitigate disputes. Furthermore, decisions are based on strict legal compliance, which also reduces the risk of future contingencies.
