Position

Barrister at Field Court Tax Chambers, developing a litigation and advisory practice.

Career

Rita is a practising member of the Bar of England & Wales (2021) and of the Portuguese Bar (2008), as well as a member of the New York State Bar (2010). She has rights of audience before EU courts. She also chairs tax arbitrations in Portugal on a regular basis and is a tax expert for the Tribute Foundation for International Tax Dispute Resolution.

Before joining Field Court Tax Chambers in 2022, she worked for top-tier firms in Portugal, advised MPs and Peers in the Westminster Parliament on tax policy, and lectured in tax law and policy at several universities. She is regularly invited to speak at tax conferences.

Education

Rita has a law degree (5-year programme) from the Catholic University in Lisbon (2005). She holds an LLM in International Taxation from the New York University (2009) and her PhD on GAARs (University of London, 2021) was awarded the highly acclaimed Mitchell B. Carroll Prize.
