Gurjot Kaur

Work Department

Crime, Civil

Position

Gurjot Kaur joined New Park Court Chambers as a tenant in April 2025, having completed her pupillage at the Crown Prosecution Service in the North East in 2021. She both prosecutes and defends a range of criminal cases.

Gurjot’s experience working for the CPS, where she served as a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the Magistrates’ Court Advocacy team, has been invaluable and has significantly influenced the way she approaches case strategy, as well as witness handling and evidence analysis.

In her current practice, Gurjot handles a broad range of criminal cases, which adds to her experience of proceedings which span drug offences, assaults, sexual offences, dishonesty, robbery, public order, road traffic offences, amongst others.

Gurjot has also handled complex cases, including trials involving intermediaries and youth trials related to modern slavery. Gurjot conducted a witness deposition for a reluctant victim in a s.18 GBH in the Magistrates’ Court, where she received feedback from the reviewing lawyer, highlighting that they were ‘immensely impressed with how Ms Kaur sequenced the questions, phrased the questions, and all-round teased out as much as the witness would disclose that will assist the case.’

Throughout her pupillage, Gurjot prosecuted a variety of cases in the Magistrates’ Courts, as well as committals for sentence in the Crown Court. She was also recognised by the former DPP, Max Hill KC, for her ‘exceptional service to witnesses’ whilst conducting trials.

Experienced in the courtroom, Gurjot has a confident manner that belies her year of call. She is particularly adept at preparing witnesses for trial, putting them at ease with her straightforward and reassuring style.

Gurjot is currently appointed to the Crown Prosecution Service advocate panel at Grade 2.

Career

Prior to pupillage, Gurjot worked as a Senior Legal Practice and Technology Paralegal for a global corporate and commercial law firm. She conducted civil litigation concerning Regulation EC 261/2004 and reviewed documents regarding their privilege status for disclosure purposes.
