Biography

Prior to commencing pupillage, Wajahat spent 2 years working as a paralegal at the SFO and then the FCA. Wajahat worked on high profile cases and assisted numerous prosecuting teams in fulfilling their disclosure obligations.

Outside of life at the Bar, Wajahat is an avid cricketer and enjoys stargazing by exploring the best dark sky spots in the country.

Notable cases

GENERAL CRIME R v MB [2024] – Prosecuted a Defendant who pleaded Guilty to 8 counts of attempted sexual communication with a child under 16. The Defendant received an immediate 4-year custodial sentence. R v JS [2024] – Prosecuted a Defendant who pleaded Guilty to ABH, affray, and three counts of Assault on Emergency Worker. The Defendant received an immediate 17-month custodial sentence. R v DC [2024] – Represented the Defendant at Sentencing and secured an 8-month suspended sentence for affray. Prosecution offered no evidence for Possession of a Bladed Article. R v CP [2024] – Represented the Defendant at Sentencing and secured a 15-month suspended sentence for ABH and criminal damage against his partner and Assault on Emergency Worker. R v DJ [2024] – Prosecuted a Defendant who pleaded Guilty to ABH. The Defendant received an immediate 10-month custodial sentence. R v RC [2024] – Represented the Defendant, who had 15 previous theft offences, at Sentencing for shoplifting and secured a Conditional Discharge. R v MA [2024] – Defended a youth at Trial and Sentencing for Robbery and Possession of a Bladed Article. The Possession of a Bladed Article was a second-strike offence. Persuaded the Bench that there were exceptional circumstances that justify not imposing the mandatory minimum 4-month Detention and Training Order and secured a 12-month Youth Referral Order. R v YK [2024] – Represented the Defendant at trial for common assault and use of abusive words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. After highlighting severe disclosure failings and inconsistencies in the Prosecution’s case, the case was discontinued. FINANCIAL CRIME R v EP [2024] – Prosecuted a Defendant who pleaded Guilty to Fraud by Abuse of Position of over £65,000. The Defendant received a 2-year suspended sentence. INSS v M & M [2024] – Representing The Insolvency Service in a private prosecution under Section 216 of the Insolvency Act, which restricts the re-use of a name previously used by a company that has gone into liquidation. FAMILY SD v CA [2024] – Represented Respondent Mother at a Dispute Resolution Hearing and resisted a Joint Lives With Order sought by Applicant Father.
