Position

Sophie is a specialist family practitioner with an emphasis on child protection matters and achieving the best outcomes for children whether in the public or private law sphere. Her main focus is representing local authorities, parents, extended family members and children in public law proceedings and is instructed in complex fact and final hearings in respect of serious injuries, sexual abuse, and significant neglect cases. Her experience includes placement of children abroad, FMPOs and FGMPOs. She regularly appears against silks, both led and appearing alone. Her child protection work often sees her in cases under the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court including where deprivation of liberty restrictions are required.

In private law children she has a breadth of experience including leave to remove from jurisdiction, implacable hostility and parental alienation cases. She is recognised for her ability to think creatively to best progress her client’s case and provide clear and coherent advice in an empathetic manner.

Career

Sophie was called in 2006 and worked for two years at a London legal advice centre. She completed a common law pupillage and maintained a mixed practice including crime for her first few years at the Bar. Her practice now focuses solely on children matters.
