John has a busy commercial and chancery practice with a particular focus on commercial litigation, civil fraud, company disputes and intellectual property. He has particular experience in urgent applications in cases involving allegations of fraud, including applications for freezing injunctions, passport orders, and Norwich Pharmacal orders.

John's notable recent cases include:

Segulah Medical Acceleration AB v Tripathi [2025] EWHC 632 (Ch), in which the High Court considered the construction and effect of the standard "non enforcement" undertaking given in connection with worldwide freezing orders (led by Adam Baradon KC)

Omanovic v Shamaazi Ltd [2025] EWHC 110 (KB), in which the High Court ruled that the terms on which the claims of two former claimants were compromised were inadmissible in evidence at trial for want of relevance (led by Dan McCourt Fritz KC)

Gallahue v Tripathi [2024] EWHC 1740 (Ch), in which the High Court considered the merits threshold applicable to interlocutory applications for worldwide freezing orders (led by Adam Baradon KC)

Floreat Investment Management Ltd v Churchill [2023] EWCA Civ 440, in which the Court of Appeal reversed a finding of dishonesty made at first instance and entered judgment in favour of John's clients (led by Thomas Elias)

Enreach UK Ltd v Inreach Group Ltd [2023] R.P.C. 4, in which the High Court considered the interaction between Article 5 of the Trade Marks (Relative Grounds) Order 2007 and Article 1, Protocol 1 of the ECHR (led by Michael Edenborough KC)

Entertainment One UK Limited v Công Ty TNHH Đầu Tư Công Nghệ Và Dịch Vụ Sconnect Việtnam [2023] 1 W.L.R. 2333, in which the High Court dismissed service and jurisdiction challenges in a multi-jurisdictional copyright, trade mark and passing off claim concerning the Peppa Pig children’s animated series (led by Michael Edenborough KC and Gwilym Harbottle)

In addition to his practice at the Bar, John is a distinguished academic lawyer. He has edited four books and has authored over twenty publications in leading academic law reviews. His publications have been cited by the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Singapore Court of Appeal, as well as in numerous textbooks, articles and reference works, including in Sir Kim Lewison's The Interpretation of Contracts and in the 10th edition of Goff & Jones on Unjust Enrichment.
