Career
Laura specialises in intellectual property law. She joined Chambers in September 2023 following successful completion of pupillage, during which she worked on a range of cases involving patents, copyright, design rights, trade marks, passing off, breach of confidential information, breach of contract, and software.
Recent experience includes:
Patents: Patents Court litigation concerning the infringement and validity of telecoms and medical device patents. Software: High Court litigation involving infringement of copyright in software, database rights, and breach of confidential information. Copyright and designs: cases and advisory work relating to the subsistence and infringement of copyright and/or design rights in literary works, characters, sculptures, software, clothing and works of artistic craftsmanship. Trade marks and passing off: oppositions and invalidity applications in the UKIPO including appeals to the Appointed Person and High Court, and trade mark infringement and passing off actions in the High Court and IPEC. Other: breach of contract, mediation and settlement agreements.Prior to joining Hogarth, Laura was an associate in the IP litigation team at Herbert Smith Freehills. She worked on patent cases in both the telecoms and life sciences sectors, including global pharmaceutical litigation and SPC disputes. She also advised clients in relation to software, copyright infringement, and brands, and spent time on secondment with the disputes team of a multinational technology client.
Laura has a Master’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southampton and a distinction from the University of Oxford in Intellectual Property Law and Practice.
