Ian is a specialist regulatory barrister. He is highly regarded for his work in food and consumer products regulation, including labelling claims (for example nutrition, health and environmental), safety and recalls. Ian is also experienced in health and safety law, inquests and public inquiries.

Ian’s practice is divided between providing non-contentious compliance and regulatory advice, providing guidance and assistance in connection with investigations and enforcement action, and representing clients in courts and tribunals.

A substantial proportion of Ian’s work involves complex and technical points of regulatory law and evaluating commercial, legal and regulatory risk for businesses (multinationals, SMEs and individuals) and consumers.

Ian’s work, particularly in respect of claims, also involves advising on advertising and marketing rules and he is experienced in the requirements of the Advertising Standards Authority Codes.

Ian is ranked in the legal directories in Life Sciences Regulatory and Consumer Law and was nominated by Legal 500 in the category of Consumer Junior of the year (2022).

He works with lawyers and businesses based in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Europe and globally.
