Position

Emily became a tenant of Exchange Chambers in January 2026 following the successful completion of her pupillage under the supervision of John Waiting and Brynmor Adams.

Emily is developing a broad business and property practice, encompassing property (residential and commercial), probateinsolvency (personal and corporate) and commercial litigation. Across those areas, Emily regularly appears in the County Court and High Court across England and Wales for applications, interlocutory hearings and trials.

During her second six, Emily has gained a strong reputation amongst her clients, with many re-instructing her to appear and advise on a diverse range of matters, often exceeding her level of call. Emily has experience in:

  • Drafting successful submissions in opposition to a High Court permission-to-appeal application following dismissal of a statutory demand set-aside, against experienced counsel.
  • \t

  • Representing clients in a wide range of commercial and property trials, often on the fast-track and representing clients in associated directions and interlocutory hearings.
  • \t

  • Successfully representing a client in response to an application to discharge or vary a final charging order and providing advice and drafting on appeal thereafter.
  • \t

  • Securing a wide range of possession orders, including but not limited to claims under section 8 and 21 of the Housing Act 1988.
  • \t

  • Representing clients in probate applications and interlocutory hearings, including in claims brought under the 1975 Act.
  • \t

  • Obtaining an order to strike-out a Claimant’s claim by oral application in the face of court.
  • \t

  • Representing clients in mediation, resulting in the successful settlement of a breach of contract claim.
  • \t

  • Making a range of corporate and personal insolvency applications in the High Court and County Court, such as winding-up petitions, remuneration applications and bankruptcy hearings.
  • \t

  • Making and resisting a wide range of interlocutory applications, such as strike-out and relief from sanction applications, and applications to set aside judgment or statutory demands.
  • \t

  • Emily also has experience drafting pleadings, applications, skeleton arguments and providing advice (both in writing and in conference) on a wide range of complex property, probate, insolvency, company and commercial law matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Emily was the Commercial Chancery Caseworker and first Northern Circuit Caseworker at Advocate (the pro bono charity of the Bar). Emily was instrumental in establishing the Manchester Chancery Litigant in Person Scheme (M-CLIPS) with the support of Business and Property judges in Manchester. She remains passionate about access to justice.
