Peter practises across 5 Essex Chambers’s core areas, representing police forces, and public and local authorities.

Peter practises in areas related to the State’s interactions with the citizenry: public and administrative law; civil claims against public authorities (e.g. human rights, police false imprisonment, prisoners’ rights, data law); inquests; public inquiries; and police misconduct. His clients include government departments, police forces, corporates and individuals.

Peter has appeared at all levels of the English Courts up to the Court of Appeal, and before the Privy Council.

His recent work includes judicial review proceedings on prisoners’ recall to prison while one licence; successfully defending a government department in a multi-million pound malicious prosecution and misfeasance claim; representing a corporate core participant in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry; and representing both corporate and public authority clients in data claims.

Peter’s recent international work includes an application to the European Court of Human Rights; and constitutional claims in the Caribbean, which led to civil partnership in the Cayman Islands and the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Trinidad & Tobago.

Peter transferred to the Bar in 2015. Previously, he was a solicitor (2010-2014), practising in commercial litigation at a top-tier, global firm, and then worked in the NGO and UN sectors for a period before commencing practice as a barrister.

Peter is on the Attorney General’s C Panel of Counsel (since 2021). He has permanent call in St Vincent & the Grenadines and ad hoc call elsewhere.
