Career

Robert has developed a broad Family and Civil practice in Chambers, which builds upon his thirteen years’ civil litigation experience prior to being called to the bar. Robert specialises in complex matrimonial financial remedy cases and in ToLATA disputes (ie property disputes usually between unmarried couples under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996).

He also has extensive experience of injunctions under the Family Law Act and of divorce proceedings, including defended divorces and has developed a specialism in jurisdictional issues in relation to Children Act matters, appearing for the Applicant Father in one of the first cases to be decided under Brussels II (R), JC v. PC, IC & FC [2006] EWHC 3247 which was subsequently approved in the Court of Appeal.

Robert’s outstanding reputation as a tactical negotiator and his ability to deal with big, complex, or otherwise demanding money cases ensures that he is consistently sought after.

He has a background in all areas of family law including public law children work.  He continues to represent parents and Guardians (on behalf of children) in all such cases from those involving neglect to allegations of non-accidental injury to children.

Robert is public access trained and is particularly pleased to accept instructions from members of the public who choose not to have a solicitor.

With a wealth of experience defining his practice, Robert is the ‘go-to’ barrister in difficult ancillary relief matters involving high-value cases. Robert remains at the forefront of ongoing developments in the law of ancillary relief and often gives seminars to explain any changes.
