Career

James has experience across all aspects of patent practice.  A large proportion of his time is spent opposing and defending high value European patents for global corporations.  He has established a reputation for achieving successful outcomes in even the most challenging of cases.  James also notably provides freedom to practice advice on a regular basis to a range of clients, from start-ups seeking investment to market-leaders.

James focuses primarily on mechanical and materials-related patents.  In recent years, he has developed particular areas of expertise in hygiene products and medical devices.  James has also worked in the diverse areas of ceramic honeycomb materials, electrical connectors and water pumps.

Prior to his career as a patent attorney, James held a number of manufacturing engineering posts in the automotive industry, working in the UK and Germany.  He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng).  James’ engineering background frequently assists in his identifying solutions to the challenges that are faced by his clients on either side of patent disputes.
