Career

Ravi Kaur Mahey is a highly experienced Solicitor-Advocate specialising in all aspects of children law, with a practice that spans both national and international cross-jurisdictional matters.

Ranked in Chambers and Partners, Ravi is widely recognised as a leading lawyer in her field. She is known for her strategic insight, creative approach to complex litigation, and fearless advocacy. She has been described as the "doyenne of everything in relation to forced marriage and FGM," reflecting her depth of expertise in some of the most sensitive and high-profile areas of practice.

Ravi qualified as a solicitor in 2002 and has since developed a specialist focus on cases involving forced marriage, abandoned spouses, honour-based abuse, and female genital mutilation (FGM). She is also highly experienced in representing children and young people in serious and complex proceedings, including allegations of non-accidental injury, "baby shaking," attempted murder, and factitious illness syndrome.

She undertakes the majority of her own advocacy, appearing across all levels of the family courts. Her work frequently involves complex care proceedings, fact-finding hearings, wardship applications, and matters with significant international elements - including international child abduction, relocation disputes, and both domestic and international adoption proceedings.

Ravi has a longstanding commitment to access to justice. She has worked predominantly within legal aid throughout her career and remains actively involved in pro bono work. She has supported and collaborated with numerous organisations, including Not Beyond Redemption, Children Seen and Heard, Women's Aid, MENCAP, Fathers Groups, 13 Community Clinics, and the National FGM Clinic (Forward).

Ravi is particularly passionate about raising awareness of neurodiversity and its intersection with the legal system, as well as advocating for a deeper understanding of the impact of race and poverty on children and families. Her work in this field led to her winning the National ESG Champion Award at the Chambers UK Awards 2025. She is also ranked for her ESG and DEI work in Chambers and Partners in this category.

She is a sought-after speaker and regularly delivers training and keynote presentations on children law, safeguarding, neurodiversity, race, and the effects of poverty within the family justice system. Ravi has presented at the Family Law Bar Conference, the Resolution National Conference, the NAGALRO Annual Conference, and a number of Family Justice Board conferences.
