Career

Guillermo Cabanellas (h) is a Senior Partner at the Corporate Practice and Antitrust Groups at DLA Piper Argentina. He holds degrees ineconomics and law (1971 and 1972, respectively) from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He also has a Master in Comparative Law anda Juridical Science Doctor degree from the University of Illinois.​​​

Dr. Cabanellas has held several preeminent positions with respect to major mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, project developments,restructurings and financing transactions in Argentina, both in his role as private practitioner and as adviser to the Federal Government. ​​​

He worked as a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute, Munich, between 1981 and 1982, and in 1987. Dr. Cabanellas has heldpre-eminent positions in Argentina for major project developments, restructurings and financings during the past three decades, both asprivate practitioner and adviser to the Federal Government. ​​​

Moreover, he has authored over thirty books and more than a hundred articles in several law reviews in Argentina, the United States andEurope. He is the author of of Banking regulation in Argentina and the regulation of foreign banks, in “Regulation of​

Foreign Banks” (M.Gruson and R.Reisner, eds., Lexis-Nexis, New York, 2000). He has been a law professor for over thirty years at theUniversidad de Buenos Aires and the University of Illinois. He is the former editor of “Revista de Derecho Bancario” (Banking LawReview), Buenos Aires, and former director of the Master in Banking Law program, Austral University, Buenos Aires.​​

He served as General Director of Economic Legislation at the Ministry of Finance and Director at the Foreign Trade Commission. Dr.Cabanellas acted as Director of the Master of Business Law at the Universidad de San Andrés until December 2008. He has beenappointed as an Alternate Justice of the Supreme Court of Argentina. Dr. Cabanellas is a member of the Argentine Academy of LegalScience. ​
