Position - Partner and Head of the Banking, Finance, Fintech, and Compliance practice areas at bgbg, where he leads the firm’s advisory work in banking regulation, financial operations, fintech structures, compliance programs and anti–money laundering strategies. He also directs bgbg’s Legal Translation Practice (English–Spanish–English), ensuring precision and consistency across multilingual legal documentation.
Career
He is widely recognized for his expertise in financial regulation, fintech law, anti–money laundering compliance, and securities matters, advising both Mexican and international financial institutions on complex regulatory and transactional projects.
Throughout his career, Miguel has advised banks, brokerage firms, investment funds, fintech institutions, payment aggregators, non-bank financial entities, and insurance companies on a broad range of legal matters. His projects regularly involve regulatory licensing, authorization processes before financial authorities, design of innovative credit and payment structures, compliance with anti–money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing obligations, securities offerings, and cross-border financing transactions.
He has participated in the structuring and incorporation of regulated and non-regulated financial institutions, including SOFOMES, SOFIPOS, fintech entities under the Fintech Law, and representative offices of foreign banks in Mexico, providing comprehensive advice on their operational, corporate, and compliance requirements.
Miguel also leads teams responsible for regulatory audits, AML risk assessments, design and implementation of compliance programs, manuals, and internal control frameworks, as well as the representation of clients before supervisory authorities, including the National Banking and Securities Commission and Ministry of Finance.
In addition to his transactional and regulatory practice, Miguel plays an active role in policy and industry discussions related to financial innovation, digital compliance, and risk management, contributing to publications and events on fintech, AML regulation, and financial governance.
He also serves as Latin American Regional Forum Liaison Officer of the Banking Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) for the 2023–2025 term, reinforcing his leadership and global perspective in the field of financial law.
