James Martin advises technology companies, nonprofit organizations, entrepreneurs, and creative businesses on protecting, enforcing, and commercializing their intellectual property. As Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, James translates complex technology into clear legal frameworks, negotiates high-value transactions, and leads litigation teams to efficient, business-aligned outcomes. His practice spans technology transactions and counseling, intellectual property litigation, portfolio strategy, and industry-specific engagements across software and semiconductors, industrial and construction technologies, consumer products, financial services, life sciences, nonprofit foundations, and the arts. Prior to practicing law, James worked for Hewlett-Packard and IBM, giving him firsthand insight into how technology businesses operate and what they need from legal counsel.
