Career

A native of Birmingham, D. Paul Jones, Jr. currently serves as Of Counsel to Balch & Bingham. Throughout his legal career, he has represented a wide array of clients, including major banks and financial institutions. Paul began his career with Balch in 1967 and served as the principal legal counsel for Compass Bancshares (now BBVA) until 1978, when he joined that company as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and as a member of its board of directors. He subsequently served as Compass' Chief Executive Officer from 1991 to 2008.

In addition to being involved in a number of professional, civic and educational organizations throughout his career, Paul served two three-year terms as a member of the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Following his retirement from Compass, Paul served on the board of directors of the Bank of America Corporation and Bank America from 2009 to 2013.
