Ed Haden focuses his practice on knowing the written and unwritten practices, procedures, and trends of the Alabama appellate courts that are necessary to obtain a decision on the merits. His deep appellate litigation experience includes litigation in the products liability, business, banking, and energy fields. Ed founded Balch’s Appellate Practice and has written extensively on appellate litigation topics. Most recently, he authored the Alabama Appellate Practice (CLE Alabama 2025). Ed serves as chair of the Standing Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure. He previously served as nominations and constitutional law counsel for Chair Orrin Hatch on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary and as chief counsel on the Courts Subcommittee for Senator Jeff Sessions.
