Daniel is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Team in Bermuda.

He is an experienced advocate, with particular expertise in complex and high value insolvency and restructuring, commercial and company matters including shareholder disputes, cryptocurrency, asset preservation, insurance and reinsurance, trust disputes and ADR / arbitrations.

Before joining Appleby, Daniel practised as a barrister in London for 12 years at Three Stone, the Chambers of John McDonnell KC, and for three years with a global law firm in the British Virgin Islands, acting for the joint liquidators of Three Arrows Capital Ltd, a cryptocurrency hedge fund which had US$9 billion assets under management.

Daniel’s practice is international and he has acted in a number of matters with a US element, assisting US firms to bring or defend claims involving foreign law in the US (including English, BVI and Antiguan law) most notably in FTX’s Chapter 11 proceedings. He has also provided expert evidence of English and BVI law in US proceedings, and assisted eminent foreign law experts to draft reports, prepare for depositions and give evidence in US proceedings.

Daniel has extensive knowledge of cryptocurrency and recent decisions concerning digital assets in multiple jurisdictions and can give accurate and prompt advice, factoring in the latest developments.

Daniel is the co-author of Trade Mark Licensing (3rd edn, Thompson Reuters, 2019), has written various articles and has taught law part-time at the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Daniel was a board member of RISA BVI and is a member of RISA Bermuda.

Daniel was the Winter Williams law scholar at St Peter’s College, University of Oxford; the Cairncross Award holder (for outstanding contribution to College life) at St Peter’s College, University of Oxford; and a Beddingfield Scholar at Gray’s Inn.

Daniel is called to the bar of England & Wales and the bar of the British Virgin Islands.
