Career
Nick is a proven first chair trial lawyer who has tried over 30 intellectual property cases to verdict with a win rate above 90%. He has been lead counsel in over 200 patent, trade secret, trademark, and copyright matters.
Nick’s IP trial work has been recognized in Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, SuperLawyers, IAM 1000, and Managing Intellectual Property, which named Nick IP Lawyer of the Year (Washington, 2016).
Nick is a frequent author and speaker. He was Co-Editor for the ABA (American Bar Association) IP Section, writing a column on IP developments that published quarterly to 20,000 IP lawyers. He has also spoken and written on substantive IP trial and litigation topics for the ABA, AIPLA, PLI, INTA, SABA, numerous state bar associations, and as a lecturer at Emory, University of Virginia, UC Hastings, Duke, and NYU. Nick served on the Board of Advisors for the Emory School of Law (2012-20). Nick also authored the chapter entitled “Recent Trends in International Patent Litigation” for a treatise on patent litigation (Thomson Reuters/Aspatore).
Before joining Quinn Emanuel, Nick founded an IP boutique, Setty Chachkes PLLC (2021-25), and served leadership roles in the IP practices at Orrick (until 2017), Sheppard Mullin (IP Group Co-Chair, 2011-13), Fish & Richardson (Office Managing Partner, 2006-11), and Jones Day (2000-06).
