Rick Nowak is a Co-Chair of Mayer Brown’s award-winning ERISA Litigation practice. Rick is an experienced trial lawyer and skilled litigator who represents clients nationwide in ERISA class actions and other benefits-related disputes involving retirement and health and welfare plans. Rick’s clients include plan sponsors, plan administrators, plan fiduciaries and committees, company boards, trustees, custodians, and third-party service providers, including recordkeepers, managed account providers, and investment advisors. These clients trust Rick for his litigation and benefits expertise, his practical advice, and his ability to effectively and efficiently handle their most challenging matters.
Rick also actively advises clients on key legislative and regulatory developments impacting their benefit plans and investment offerings, and on all aspects of ERISA fiduciary governance including the selection and monitoring of plan investments, managed accounts, service provider arrangements, and other developing areas such as ESG, private funds and alternative investments, and proxy voting. In addition, Rick represents clients before the US Department of Labor and other federal agencies in audits and investigations and to advocate for sub-regulatory guidance and regulatory changes, including advisory opinions and prohibited transaction exemptions.
