Betre Gizaw is a partner in the firm’s International Trade team. Betre advises global companies on international trade compliance, investigations, and policy issues with a particular focus on fintech, artificial intelligence, crypto, and other enabling technologies. His practice includes advising on sanctions and export controls, anti-money laundering, as well as cross-border regulatory strategy and risk.

Mr. Gizaw also advises clients on foreign investment reviews (CFIUS) in sensitive U.S. industries and technologies. Before joining the firm, Betre served as Chief Counsel for Global Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the General Counsel at Stripe, Inc. In this role, he advised the global General Counsel, C-suite executives, and investors across the company on regulatory risk, strategic growth, and operational readiness. He also served as General Counsel of Paystack, a Stripe subsidiary focused on online commerce across Africa. He developed Paystack’s legal and compliance function and served on Paystack’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee.
