Career
Carlos has been part of the firm since January 2019. His practice is specifically focused on Regulatory and Consumer Protection area. His work includes obtaining, renewing, updating, modifying, and canceling sanitary and environmental licenses, licenses for the handling of precursors and chemicals, hydrocarbons, and petroleum products, as well as sanitary registrations for food products, medicines, and other related items such as medical devices, cosmetics, hygiene products, and animal supplies, as well as products for the agro-industry. Carlos provides technical and legal advice for carrying out regulatory and administrative procedures before various authorities, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Energy and Mines. He has experience in import authorizations for a wide range of products, from food and medicines to petroleum products, animal supplies, agrochemicals, chemicals, refrigeration equipment, controlled substances, among others.
Carlos also works in the environmental and ESG (Environment, Society, and Corporate Governance) field. He has experience in legal assessments and audits of environmental management, occupational health and safety, and social responsibility. His skills include environmental and natural resource management, knowledge of environmental instruments, management of environmental damages and their repair, treatment of wastewater, disposal and management of waste and hazardous materials, and protection of protected areas, all in accordance with current technical regulations.
Throughout his professional career, Carlos has developed experience in various areas of law, such as corporate, commercial, mercantile, notarial, labor, civil, and real estate advisory. Before joining the firm, he worked in the civil, commercial, and intellectual property departments of local firms, where he drafted civil, commercial, and labor contracts, as well as dealt with matters related to trademarks, registration of promotions before the government, establishment, and registration of commercial and civil societies, drafting of assembly minutes, memoranda in consignment processes, and dealings with various state institutions. He also worked on bank contracts, advertising billboard contracts, and real estate contracts.
Similarly, Carlos has completed internships at various institutions, such as the International Mission of Justice, the Judicial Organization (Second Labor and Social Security Court), and the IURISTEC program. During his university internships, he was in charge of various cases before the jurisdictional bodies of the State of Guatemala, including ordinary labor cases, executive processes for alimony, and voluntary divorces.
