Associate

Sonia joined the firm in 2008 as an Associate in the Intellectual Property Department. With over 15 years of experience in this field, she has extensive expertise in managing trademark portfolios. She has led major projects for international companies, overseeing trademark renewals, transfers, name and address changes, and annuity payments for patent maintenance.

Throughout her career, Sonia has also served as the regional coordinator for the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, advising Salvadoran and international companies on trademark registrations across the United States, Mexico, several Caribbean nations, Central America, select South American countries, and Spain.

Currently, she leads the firm’s patent division, providing strategic counsel to multinational companies on the patentability of their innovations. She manages the registration of patents, utility models, and industrial designs, overseeing the process from filing to the issuance of registration certificates by the Salvadoran Intellectual Property Institute (ISPI). Additionally, she ensures the ongoing maintenance of these intellectual property assets.
