Position

Emlyn is Gateley’s national head of the Construction & Surety unit. He deals with the full range of complex construction and surety work. This includes complex bond transactions, bond disputes and the security and recovery claims in addition to high value, complex disputes arising out of all the forms of major standard form construction and engineering contracts as well as professional negligence claims. Emlyn prosecutes litigation, arbitration and adjudication proceedings in conjunction with the strategic use of alternate dispute resolution (mediation, conciliation and expert determination).

Career

Trained Rosenblatt Solicitors, London; qualified 2002. Gateley partner 2010. Having trained with City firm, Rosenblatt, Emlyn specialised in litigation, joining Mills & Co solicitors in Newcastle Upon Tyne to undertake a range of complex shipping disputes. From there, Emlyn moved to Halliwells’ construction team in 2004 and has remained in that team as part of Gateley.

Hall Garth Secondary School; Acklam College; The University of Glasgow (1994-98 MA Honours 2:1, History); The University of Northumbria (1998-2000 CPE (Commendation); LPC (Commendation)).

Leisure

Emlyn is a keen rock climber, fell runner and motorcyclist.
