Position

Nick specialises in litigation and arbitration relating to shipping and international trade. He speaks fluent French and is a correspondent member of the French Maritime Law Association (AFDM).

Nick’s experience and expertise includes commodity trading disputes, especially under GAFTA and FOSFA terms and oil trading contracts, cargo claims, disputes under charterparties, bills of lading, general average, MOAs and shipbuilding contracts.

Lloyd’s List named him as one of their top 10 UK maritime lawyers in 2017.

Career

Trained Ingledew Brown Bennison & Garrett; qualified 1977. Partner IBB&G 1979-89; partner Holmes Hardingham 1989-2008; partner Gateley 2008 to date.

Languages

Fluent French, working knowledge of German.

Memberships

Supporting member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA); correspondent member of the French Maritime Law Association (AFDM).

Education

Worksop College; Cambridge University (1975 MA law).

Leisure

Nick enjoys classical music, walking, running and going to the theatre.
