Career
Sarah joined Hudgells in 2014 and is a specialist personal injury solicitor with more than 15 years’ experience. She has a wide ranging personal injury practice including public liability, accidents at work, road traffic accidents and serious injury claims.
These cases are often high-value or complex in nature and Sarah places a strong focus on ensuring the best rehabilitation support is provided from an early stage to ensure her clients benefit from help and support to make their lives that little bit easier, whether this be physical, psychological or financial.
Sarah prides herself on being friendly and approachable, understanding that having an accident is stressful enough without worrying about the claims process. She therefore aims to guide clients through the legal process so they can concentrate on their recovery, as she seeks maximum compensation.
As well as dealing with her own cases, Sarah is Manager of the Fast Track Personal Injury Team, overseeing colleagues’ cases and providing guidance and support. Sarah is also involved in the strategic planning for the continued success of the department.
Career HighlightsI settled a very unusual case, securing a six-figure compensation award for a client who was attacked by a cow when out walking her dog on a public pathway. One of the cows attacked her dog before attacking her and her partner.
Liability was denied, so we took it almost as far as the trial date when the defendant finally admitted liability. Cases involving animals attacking are particularly difficult to prove. We had to secure reports from various medical experts to prove the extent of her injuries, as she suffered severe chest trauma. This resulted in my client being unable to work.
I also secured £396,400 damages for a cyclist left unable to return to his work due to the serious ankle injury he suffered when hit by a car. The man was also supported with an extensive package of rehabilitation through the claim. The final damages settlement was more than £140,000 higher than that originally offered by the defendant’s legal representatives.
In another case I secured a six-figure settlement for a client who suffered life changing injuries as a result of a car cutting across her path as she drove her moped. She was left temporarily in a coma, with multiple fractures to the neck and limbs, and eventually underwent an above elbow amputation. As well as securing significant damages we ensured my client had expert support from the start, to ensure she could live as normal life as possible with her life-changing injuries.
A judge at a hearing indicated that he was impressed that I secured compensation for a client injured in a supermarket car park. She had suffered a hip fracture and foot injury and reported to the Police that she had been hit by a reversing van. Despite no witnesses or CCTV, and the fact that the client had dementia, I secured a five-figure settlement.
