Career

Jonathan is Director and Head of Client Relations, based at our Newport office. He specialises in personal injury, crime and clinical negligence and has dealt with a number of complex cases in these areas of law, including securing a large and just settlement for a client who suffered with the after-effects of misdiagnosed meningitis resulting in a settlement of £4.9m. Jonathan began doing personal injury during a training contract involving union work predominantly. He went on to practice family and criminal law on qualification before specialising in personal injury law. He has a special interest in employers’ liability and high-value claims and clinical negligence but retains his criminal duty solicitor qualification. Additionally, Jonathan has an interest in sport and disciplinary law, having provided advocacy at number of sports disciplinary meetings.

Trained Watkins and Gunn 1989-91; qualified 1991; partner Watkins & Gunn 2003 to date.

Law Society Personal Injury Panel; Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Leisure

Jonathan has a keen interest in golf and cricket. He is the secretary and captain of Newbridge Cricket Club and is heavily involved with coaching the juniors at the club. He is also chairman of a Monmouthshire cricket league and solicitor to Cross Keys RFC.
