Position

Briony is an associate in the litigation and arbitration team with a background and particular interest in art and cultural property.  Before embarking on her legal career, Briony completed a postgraduate degree in arts management from the University of Bologna.  She wrote her Master's thesis at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, focusing on the museum's international strategy.

Having trained at Withers, she has broad experience of complex international and domestic disputes involving art, civil fraud, shareholder disputes, forfeiture orders, enforcement, professional negligence, insolvency, and contractual and tortious commercial issues.

In the realm of art law, she has worked on a wide range of areas including multi-jurisdictional title disputes, suspected forgeries at auction, artist's resale rights, catalogues raisonnés, intellectual property rights, art-world insolvencies and collection co-ownership. She has also assisted gallery clients in relation to directorship disputes.

Briony is a member of the Art Lawyers Association and the International Catalogue Raisonné Association, and is currently studying the Diploma in Art Law with the Institute of Art and Law.
