Partner, Head of Disputes Practice

Rahul heads the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice. His practice consists of complex litigations and arbitrations. He also advises clients on a wide and varied spectrum of laws. His clients include leading multinational and domestic corporations, public sector enterprises, funds, think tanks, and high net worth individuals. As a litigator, Rahul focusses on the appellate side and regularly argues and briefs senior advocates to appear in the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, and other High Courts across India, including Allahabad, Bombay, Calcutta, Gujarat, and Orissa, as well as the appellate authorities under consumer, money laundering, and electricity laws. He qualified as an Advocate on record with the Supreme Court of India in 2011. He has successfully defended or challenged arbitration awards, represented clients in complex commercial disputes, including issues of blacklisting and tender conditions, acted successfully for taxpayers, criminal accused and in family matters acting for HNI individuals. He has been involved in several landmark  cases involving constitutional law and human rights, as well as complex issues that arise out of the bankruptcy code in relation to other laws. Recently, he has successfully defended a High Court judgement quashing a demand of additional premium imposed by the Government on original allottees of land in central Delhi. He also succeeded in altering a court order to permit his client to travel abroad after his passport had been impounded. In arbitration, Rahul has acted in both Indian and international commercial arbitrations in matters arising from complex shareholder disputes, commercial transactions, maritime law, and construction law. He frequently sits as an arbitrator in commercial disputes and has undergone advanced arbitrator training conducted by the ICC. He is on the Scrutiny Panel of the DIAC and part of the Research and Policy Committee of the ICC India Arbitration Group.

Rahul is the trustee of the Supreme Court Advocates Welfare Trust and a member of the Editors’ Guild of India committee for press freedom.

Rahul qualified in 2004 and read for the B.C.L at the University of Oxford. He is also qualified in England and Wales. He has previously worked with AZB & Partners in New Delhi and Herbert Smith Freehills in London.

He frequently participates as a panelist, lecturer, or moderator in seminars, roundtables, and conferences on various laws, including arbitration, privacy, constitutional law, trade law, and others. Rahul has also conducted courses for lawyers, law students, and journalists.
