Career
Alicia is a Senior Associate in the Insurance & Reinsurance practice group of Rajah & Tann Singapore.
Since being called to the Bar in 2022, Alicia has immersed herself in the practice of insurance law. Her work is evenly divided across assisting on high-value policy coverage disputes, rendering insurance regulatory advice and engaging in recovery and defence work under subrogation rights – a breadth that affords her invaluable insight into the market’s strategic priorities in the short few years since starting her legal career.
On the contentious front, Alicia has assisted with the defence of government agencies in relation to various property damage claims arising from the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System project and the North-South Corridor project, effectively managing stakeholders on a day-to-day whilst cognisant of the long-term nature of such construction projects and potential protraction of disputes.
On the advisory side, Alicia has worked on complex coverage matters, including in respect of a cyber risk insurance policy and a major data breach incident, as well as in respect of an aviation war risk insurance policy and loss of aircraft following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Alicia is also part of the local deal counsel team who acted for Japanese insurer Zenkyoren (National Mutual Insurance Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives) on a US$100 million catastrophe bond issuance from Singapore, a landmark transaction in the global insurance-linked securities (ILS) market and an affirmation on Singapore’s value as an ILS domicile.
Alicia has also frequently assisted insurers with the set-up and restructuring of their businesses in Singapore. Notably, she is involved in the major reorganisation of Liberty Group’s Asia Pacific entities, advising holistically on the requisite steps to effect a portfolio transfer of insurance business and various other operational issues in implementing the restructure. She also assisted with the registration of global specialty insurer Mosaic Insurance as a service company on the Lloyd’s Asia platform, providing regulatory support as it navigates Singapore’s insurance landscape.
